Korea vs. Russia match street cheering in southern SeoulUpdated: 2014-06-18 08:44:02 KST
Thousands of fans lined the streets of Seoul and several other Korean cities to watch Korea's game with Russia. despite the early kick-off time.
Our Kwon Soa was at a cheering location in southern Seoul with a mass of red shirts
Soa, the game itself was pretty close and tense, but how was the atmosphere down there?
Hi again, Mark what an exciting first match day it was for South Korea, playing against Russia.
As the game ended in a ONE-ONE draw, people left the venue pretty early, especially as many had to get to their offices before nine.
But earlier the streets here in front of COEX were PACKED with around 10-thousand people of all ages.
I've been here since a bit past four AM, and even back then fans filled the front rows in front of a stage here.
That stage was also where Korean singer Psy performed his hit songs, including Gangnam Style, Gentleman, and Champion.
And it's not an exaggeration to say it was the main event before the game.
Numerous other famous singers also took to the stage, as we counted down the minutes to the game.
The loudest cheers came when Psy appeared, when the whistle blew for the start of the game, and of course when Lee Geun-ho scored his goal in the second half,.
When the ball went in, everyone went wild.
However, sounds of groans and disappointment echoed around when Russia scored their equalizer.
The mood was one of disappointment to have let the 1-0 slip, but also relief that the team didn't lose their first game and still have a great chance to qualify for the knockout stage.
Currently staff and volunteers are busying sweeping up and getting the venue in order.
That's all I have for you today at Yeongdongdae-ro in Gangnam.
Back to you Mark
