South Korea plans to spend one billion dollars for the deployment of five reconnaissance satellites by 2020.
Under the chairmanship of defense minister Kim Kwan-jin,.. the Defense Acquisition Program Administration said Wednesday that the Agency for Defense Development will lead the research and development for the spy satellites.
The satellites will be used to monitor North Korea's nuclear test sites.
The administration also plans to boost R&D in long-range surface-to-air missiles from next year.
