Heavily armed gunmen in Pakistan have attacked an airport in the largest city of Karachi, leaving 28 people dead and 14 injured.
The Pakistani Taliban has officially claimed responsibility for the deadly assault,.. in revenge for the death of a former Taliban leader by a U.S. drone strike, last November.
The coordinated attack by the terrorist cell began Sunday night, as they seized control of a commercial terminal, killing security guards and airline workers.
The group was reportedly equipped with suicide vests, machine guns, grenades and a rocket launcher.
The ensuing battle between the gunmen and government troops lasted for five hours, and then resumed in the early hours of Monday morning.
In the end, Pakistani authorities say all 10 militants were killed and at least one aircraft was destroyed.
As of now, operations at Jinnah International Airport have resumed, with flights safely landing there from as early as 2:30 in the afternoon, local time.
