South Korea says it's working with Thai authorities to secure the release of 13 North Koreans who were arrested in Thailand while trying to defect.
An official from Seoul's foreign ministry said Monday that the South Korean embassy in Hanoi is looking into the matter.
They believe the would-be defectors will be released and allowed to transit to a third country following an investigation by Thai authorities.
The entirely female group, which includes two children, crossed into Thailand after passing through China and Laos, with hopes of finding asylum.
