President Park Geun-hye will likely announce her pick to fill the vacant prime minister seat as early as Sunday.
Quoting sources within the presidential office of Cheong Wa Dae, various media outlets report the president has been mulling over potential candidates, and will make her choice known sooner rather than later, as she looks to press ahead with her reform agenda.
According to reports, President Park has been searching for a candidate with an innovative mind and deep ethical integrity.
This after the president's previous Prime Minster nominee Ahn Dai-hee had to withdraw last month amid criticism over the amount of money he earned in the private sector after retiring as a Supreme Court justice.
Sources at Cheong Wa Dae also report that the president's Senior Press Secretary Lee Jung-hyun recently offered to step down from his post.
Lee is one of President Park's closest aides, and has served at the Presidential Office since the start of the Park administration.
He's reportedly either gearing up to run in by-elections scheduled for next month or he will be made a government minister during President Park's expected and highly anticipated Cabinet reshuffle.
The move could also signal a reshuffle of presidential aides as well, as some Presidential Office officials came under fire for their mishandling of the recent Sewol-ho ferry disaster.
