President Park Geun-hye's pick for prime minister has withdrawn his name from consideration, just one week after being nominated.
Ahn Dai-hee said he was stepping aside amid criticism over the amount of money he earned in the private sector last year after retiring as a Supreme Court justice.
At a press conference less than an hour ago, Ahn said his nomination would only stand to burden the Park administration.
Ahn's withdrawal comes just six days after President Park tapped him to be her new prime minister citing his principles and integrity, saying they would help him successfully carry out the much-needed reforms in the public sector and the government.
Earlier this week, the former supreme court judge pledged to give back to society the one million U.S. dollars he earned last year.
