Thai protest leaders released by as King endorses coupUpdated: 2014-05-26 13:59:34 KST
Thailand's monarchy has officially endorsed the nation's military to run the country.
Army Commander General Prayuth Chan-ocha said he received the endorsement Monday from the Thai king, which gives last week's coup legitimacy.
Soon after, the Thai general released 13 leaders of anti-government protests.
Prayuth made the announcement during his first press conference since Thursday's military takeover, one day after the military junta warned of a crackdown on civilian opposition to its takeover.
