Speaking of the focus in recent days on improving safety following last month's ferry disaster,. on Monday, another deadly accident has added to the nation's anguish.
A fire at a bus terminal in the city of Goyang, Gyeonggi-do province killed at least seven and injured 41 others.
But the death toll could rise further with some of those wounded in critical condition.
The blaze broke out shortly after 9 a.m. during rush hour in the basement of the station, located just north-west of Seoul, and was brought under control after about 20 minutes.
Authorities have yet to determine the blaze, but firefighters believe welding operations at a construction site in the basement could have played a role.
