President Park Geun-hye has apologized to the families of the Sewol-ho ferry victims for the government's insufficient emergency response to the tragedy.
During talks with representatives of the families at the presidential office Friday, President Park consoled them and promised to revamp the nation's safety systems to ensure that the victims did not die in vain.
She also asked the families about their concerns and needs.
The meeting came after some families had marched towards the presidential office last week to demand talks with the president.
President Park is expected to address the entire nation as early as next week to apologize for the government's failure to prevent the ferry tragedy.
And, this just coming in.
Families of the victims who met the president held a press conference just about ten minutes ago
A family representative said the group was made up of 17 people including parents of the school children who perished in the ferry accident.
