It has been a day of quiet reflection at Korea's National Assembly on this Thursday as lawmakers expressed their deep sorrow at the worst maritime disaster the country has seen in more than two decades.
Ruling Saenuri Party lawmakers conveyed their deepest condolences to the families of those who died and the 2-hundred-eighty-eight still unaccounted for.
Saenuri Party chairman Hwang Woo-yea said parliament has activated a disaster relief committee to lend support to the site.
The main opposition New Politics Alliance for Democracy also said the first priority was saving more lives and promised the party would do all that it can to help.
As a mark of respect, both parties said they would stop all local election campaigning until further notice.
