President Park Geun-hye says Korea's science and technology sector should play an essential role in realizing her vision for a creative economy.
The president told her science and technology advisers on Thursday that she hopes government-funded research institutes will work side-by-side with the country's small- and mid-sized venture firms to better commercialize their joint technology.
President Park referred to how more than 70 percent of the technology from public institutes is left unused due to the lack of infrastructure to commercialize it.
The president also called on Korea's engineering schools to start offering the practical skills that industries want, and play a central role in the creative economy.
