Samsung withdraws some patent claims from U.S. litigation against AppleUpdated: 2014-03-10 13:57:36 (KST)
Ahead of its latest legal tussle with Apple, Samsung has reportedly decided to withdraw some patent claims from its latest litigation with the U.S. firm.
Foss Patents, a German-based blog that specializes in intellectual property rights, says Samsung has filed a stipulation with the U.S. District Court of California to narrow their case by dismissing three claims regarding standard-essential patents.
The owner of a standard-essential patent can use it to prevent others from making, using, and selling the patented invention without permission.
Samsung has earlier filed for five claims against Apple, including two non-standard-essential patents.
This news comes as Apple and Samsung are set to return to court on March 31st in order to iron out their ongoing patent dispute.
