The leaders of Korea's main opposition party and a separate opposition group led by an independent lawmaker will be the co-leaders of a new coalition party.
Democratic Party leader Kim Han-gil and lawmaker Ahn Cheol-soo made the announcement official Friday evening at a news conference.
Ahn will lead a preparatory committee for the creation of the coalition, while simultaneously putting the final touches on his own New Political Vision Party.
Kim and Ahn are hoping that their alliance will help them regain seats at the National Assembly.
