Korea's financial regulator has vowed to upgrade the data protection system, as the country continues to reel from the largest-ever personal information breach in its history.
During a meeting at the National Assembly Thursday, Financial Services Commission chair Shin Je-yoon reiterated the importance of protecting client data and vowed to improve the nation's data security structure in order to regain the public trust.
He also offered an apology for the leak.
He confirmed the previously proposed three-month suspension of business at the three card firms involved in the security breach will begin as early as this Friday.
