House education committee in U.S. state of Virginia passes 'East Sea' billUpdated: 2014-02-04 17:55:30 KST
Just two more steps to go before the school textbooks in the U.S. state of Virginia use the name "East Sea" next to Japanese name "Sea of Japan" when referring to the body of water between the two countries.
The House of Delegates education panel passed the dual name designation bill in a 18-to-3 vote.
Virginia State Governor Terry McAuliffe said Tuesday that he is willing to sign the legislature once it passes the full assembly Thursday, where it is widely expected to win approval.
Korea argues the Japanese name for the sea reflects Japan's imperialistic aggressions.
