And shortly after preliminary registration began on Tuesday for local elections in June, President Park ordered officials to keep a close eye on them.
Speaking at a Cabinet meeting on Tuesday, President Park said as the June local elections are the first elections to be held during her administration, they must be "fair and clean."
The president ordered government ministries to make sure the political neutrality of the elections is maintained and added she will penalize anyone involved in acts of corruption.
