The United States it plans to deploy more troops and heavy tanks to South Korea to rebalance its forces across the Asia-Pacific.
The Pentagon say eight-hundred additional troops, along with extra tanks and armed vehicles will start a nine-month deployment on February 1st in Gyeonggi-do provincejust south of the demilitarized zone separating the two Koreas.
The U.S. already has roughly 28-thousand troops stationed in South Korea.
The move comes at a time of heightened tensions on the peninsula after last month's execution of Jang Song-thaek, the once powerful uncle of North Korean leader Kim Jong-un.
