U.S. says denuclearization remains key focus of its North Korea policy in 2014Updated: 2014-01-03 PM 9:52:46 (KST)
Washington's main focus for its North Korea policy this year remains unchanged: to denuclearize Pyongyang.
U.S. State Department Deputy Spokesperson Marie Harf told reporters on Thursday
that the U.S. will continue to make decisions based upon Pyongyang's actions -- not its words, and added Washington did not see any sign of the regime's commitment to denuclearization in Kim Jong-un's New Year's speech.
As for recent visits by Japanese politicians, including the prime minister, to the controversial Yasukuni Shrine, Harf said Washington has been urging Japan to resolve historical issues with its neighbors in an amicable manner.
