Landmark court ruling threatens to hike wagesUpdated: 2013-12-18 (KST)
Korea's Supreme Court on Wednesday ruled that fixed bonuses WILL be included as part of ordinary wages, which gives laborers an upper hand.
This means similar lawsuits filed by workers from major manufacturers like Hyundai Motor and General Motors could also succeed, something that would bring about an additional 13-billion U.S. dollars in labor costs.
Workers from different sectors who heavily rely on overtime pay, have lodged numerous lawsuits against basic wages, demanding changes to the system.
President Park Geun-hye promised business leaders, including GM Chairman Daniel Akerson back in May, to resolve the labor wage issue.
