Seoul's Defense Minister Kim Kwan-jin has ordered the South Korean military to be on full alert against any possible provocations from North Korea.
During a meeting with the nation's military commanders on Tuesday, Kim said there is a high chance of a North Korean provocation between late January to early March next year.
In a separate development, Saenuri Party lawmaker Cho Won-jin said in a special parliamentary meeting Tuesday that the North is showing signs it could attempt another long-range missile launch and a fourth nuclear test, citing signs of expansion in its nuclear test site and missile launch facility.
