North Korea has confirmed the ousting of Jang Song-thaek, the uncle of North Korean leader Kim Jong-un who was once considered the second most powerful person within the regime.

After charging him with a string of acts against the state this morning, the North Korean government has released photos of Jang being arrested.

For the latest, we now go live to our unification ministry correspondent Hwang Sung-hee at the Arirang News Center.
Sung-hee, we have some breaking news coming out of North Korea?

Good evening, guys.
A surprise move by North Korea, yet again.
Its state-run Korean Central Television released pictures this afternoon of Kim Jong-un's uncle Jang Song-thaek being arrested.
These are the pictures that we are talking about.
They are from Sunday's assembly of the Workers' Party politburo, and you can see Jang being removed by two military officers.
Jang appears to have been arrested on the spot after the North Korean government announced his crimes, and after attending officials adopted a written verdict.
We must note that this is the first time since 1970 that Pyongyang has released pictures of a high-ranking official being arrested.
