China preparing for worst-case scenario of war with Japan: Global Times
According to China's state-run daily the Global Times the escalating tensions between China and Japan over territorial claims to an island chain in the East China Sea could ignite a war.
It said Beijing was preparing for the worst-case scenario of a military conflict over the islands, as both sides are sticking to their hardline stances.
The newspaper also said that Japan's provocative stance is possible because of the support of the United States.
The report comes a day after Japan's defense minister stated that China's "intrusions" in the waters around the disputed islands were "jeopardizing peace."
China had earlier warned that any attempts to shoot down its drones in the area would constitute "an act of war."
