Japan accuses China of threatening peace in island row
In the latest in a string of rhetoric between the two sides, Japan has warned China that its behavior over the disputed East China Sea islands is threatening peace and stability in the region.
Japan has been reporting increased Chinese activity in recent weeks around the islands, known as Senkaku in Japan and Diaoyu in China.
Japanese Defense Minister Itsunori Onodera said Tuesday that the territorial intrusions around the Senkaku islands fall into a gray zone between peace time and an emergency situation.
Tokyo has scrambled fighter jets three times in the last week after Chinese military aircraft flew near Japanese airspace.
Japan's Defense Ministry is expected to revise the rules of engagement when it comes to foreign drones intruding Japanese airspace and ignoring warnings.
