South Koreans have been warned against downloading online gaming programs as the police say they could have been developed by North Korea to launch cyber attacks on the South.
The National Police Agency said Tuesday that gaming programs, developed by North Korea, have been distributed in South Korea.
It says the malware they contain can collect location data and IP addresses and send them to servers overseas.
Infected PCs can then be used to launch Distributed Denial of Service, or DDoS, attacks.
Police advise the public refrain from downloading uncertified gaming programs and to back up data and format the hard drive if you suspect your PC has been infected with malware.
