Campaigning for Oct. 30 by-elections gets underway
Candidates seeking to fill two seats in Korea's National Assembly hit the trail Thursday as campaigning for the October 30th by-elections got underway.
The candidates are running to fill vacancies in the Hwaseong A District in Gyeonggi Province and the South Pohang and Ulleung Districts in North Gyeongsang Province.
As the campaigns kicked off, party leaders also stumped for their candidates.
Ruling Saenuri Party Secretary-General Hong Moon-jong said the party's candidates will listen to the public's needs with a humble but firm attitude toward revitalizing the country.
Main opposition Democratic Party Secretary-General Park Ki-choon said his party's candidates would fight to the finish.
The 13-day campaign is expected to focus on local and regional issues.
