Joint naval drills between S. Korea, U.S., Japan delayed due to typhoon
planned joint naval drills between South Korea, the United States and Japan that have been postponed due to the fast-approaching Typhoon Danas.
The trilateral drills were scheduled to take place from today until Thursday in waters off Korea's southern coastand were to involve the nuclear-powered American aircraft carrier, the U.S.S. George Washington, as well as Aegis destroyers from South Korea and Japan.
Military officials in Seoul say consultations are underway on whether to push the drills back a few days or cancel them.
The officials add the U.S.S. George Washington is on standby in a safer area for the time being.
Typhoon Danas is forecast to pass across the southern part of the Korean peninsula on Wednesday morning.
