Pres. Park to continue 'sales diplomacy' in Indonesia & Brunei
President Park's first destination in her trip to the Southeast Asian region will be Bali, Indonesia.
On Monday and Tuesday, President Park will take part in the Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation, or APEC summit, where she will discuss ways to achieve sustainable growth and promote the "connectivity" of transportation, regulations and personnel in the region.
The president will then fly over to Bandar Seri Begawan, Brunei, to take part in the Korea-ASEAN, ASEAN+3 and East Asia summits.
President Park is expected to seek ways to further strengthen economic cooperation with 10 ASEAN member countries.
ASEAN has become Korea's key economic partner as the second largest market in bilateral trade for Korea and the biggest market for Korean investment.
During the East Asia Summit on Thursday, the leaders of 18 countries, including ASEAN+3 countries, Australia, New Zealand, India, the U.S. and Russia, will discuss ways to work together in countering global issues, such as climate change and natural disasters.
On the sidelines of these multilateral summits in Bali and Bandar Seri Begawan, President Park is expected to hold bilateral talks with some of the leaders.
However, the final list of who she will meet has yet to be confirmed.
President Park will arrive in Jakarta, Indonesia on Thursday evening for a three-day state visit.
On Saturday, President Park is scheduled to hold a bilateral summit with Indonesian President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono and seek ways to strengthen and expand the two countries' cooperation in future industries, including energy, environment and forestry.
This year marks the 40th anniversary since the two countries established diplomatic ties.
The presidential office of Cheong Wa Dae said that President Park's state visit to Indonesia reflects her economic emphasis on the ASEAN region, which has emerged as a so-called post-BRICs bloc, and falls in line with her push for sales diplomacy.
