Defense chiefs of S. Korea, U.S. to meet Wednesday for Security Consultative Meeting
The defense chiefs of South Korea and the United States are meeting in Seoul on this Wednesday for the 45th Security Consultative Meeting.
The talks between South Korean Defense Minister Kim Kwan-jin and his U.S. counterpart Chuck Hagel are expected to focus on the possible delay of the planned transfer of wartime operational control from Washington to Seoul, currently slated for December 2015.
Seoul is keen to delay the transfer, citing the continued security threat posed by North Korea.
The two defense chiefs last shared views on the issue in Brunei in August, but failed to reach a compromise.
The two sides will also assess the current situation in North Korea, and come up with a customized South Korea-U.S. deterrence strategy against Pyongyang's nuclear threats.
