Pres. Obama blames Republicans for government shutdown
U.S. President Barack Obama has accused his Republican opponents of holding the entire U.S. economy hostage in the row over his health care reforms.
Hundreds of thousands of workers were sent home Tuesday without pay and government services across the country were halted after the U.S. Congress failed to reach an agreement on the federal budget.
In one of the strongest criticisms yet, Obama said congressional Republicans had shut down the government over "an ideological crusade to deny affordable health insurance to millions of Americans."
