Man shot dead by S. Korean military trying to cross into North
A man was shot dead by the South Korean military in Gyeonggi Province on Monday while reportedly trying to cross a river into North Korea.
A senior official at the Joint Chiefs of Staff said several warning shots were fired, and that he was told to return but was shot and killed after ignoring the warnings and jumping into the Imjin River.
In his pocket was a passport, which identified a 47-year-old male with the family name Nam but officials say they still have to check whether the passport belongs to the man.
An investigation is currently underway to determine the man's identity and his motive for the attempted border crossing.
