National Assembly to vote on arrest motion for lawmaker Lee Seok-ki
The National Assembly is expected to vote on whether to allow the arrest of lawmaker Lee Seok-ki of the leftist Unified Progressive Party on Wednesday afternoon.
President Park Geun-hye's administration, accusing Lee of conspiring an armed rebellion benefiting North Korea, has asked parliament to strip him of parliamentary immunity from arrest.
The arrest motion has to be handled by Thursday.
But the ruling Saenuri Party has proposed to vote on the motion on Wednesday and officials of the main opposition Democratic Party say they are positively reviewing the request.
The opposition party will finalize its decision at its Supreme Council meeting at 11 AM, Korea time.
