N. Korea, Syria connected in chemical weapons: S. Korean defense minister
Staying with Syria
South Korean Defense Minister Kim Kwan-jin said on Tuesday there could be a chemical weapons connection between Syria and North Korea.
Responding to a question during a parliamentary committee meeting, the minister said signs of Pyongyang's cooperation with Damascus were detected at South Korea's southeastern port of Busan, but did not elaborate further.
As for Washington's transfer of wartime operational control to Seoul by 2015, Kim said the two allies share the idea the current deadline is not in Korea's best interest.
He added that the defense ministry is in discussions with the U.S. on the possibility of delaying the deadline, in consideration of the current security situation.
