Korean history to be mandatory on CSAT starting 2017
Responding to growing concerns Korean teenagers don't have a proper understanding of their country's history, the government will make Korean history a compulsory subject for the college entrance test starting 2017.
Korean history is currently one of the 11 optional subjects in the social studies section, and a decreasing number of students are opting to take it on their college entrance exams.
In addition, the Education Ministry is considering having all students take one common admissions test, instead of choosing from two different types.
According to the education minister a new college entrance system for the year of 2017 will be finalized in October, after collecting public opinion through open hearings.
