Korea's defense minister to discuss OPCON with U.S. counterpart at global conference in Brunei
South Korean Defense Minister Kim Kwan-jin is in Brunei to attend the second ASEAN Defence Ministers' Meeting-Plus starting today.
Kim is expected to discuss cooperative measures to counter security threats on the Korean peninsula with defense ministers from the ASEAN region.
Kim will also meet separately with U.S. Defense Secretary Chuck Hagel, and exchange views on the timeline for transfer of wartime operational control from Washington to Seoul.
Amid continued nuclear and missile threats from the North, South Korea had suggested postponing the OPCON transfer set for 2015, but the U.S. has yet to give an official response.
