Pres. Park pledges to carry out strong reforms in spy agency
President Park Geun-hye has pledged to reform the nation's spy agency amid claims from the opposition party that the National Intelligence Service was involved in a smear campaign against the opposition party candidate ahead of last year's presidential election.
In a meeting with her senior secretaries on Monday, President Park said she was determined to reform the NIS, so it can properly fulfill its role of taking charge of national security.
She also made it clear that she did not use or receive any help from the spy agency in the run up to the December 19th presidential election.
Instead, the president said she feels sorry corruptive practices have carried over from past administrations.
