Beijing urges Washington to reopen dialogue with Pyongyang
Moving onto the latest in international efforts to end Pyongyang's nuclear program
Chinese Defense Minister Chang Wanquan reportedly urged the U.S. to resume dialogue with North Korea, during talks with his U.S. counterpart in Washington earlier this week.
According to a briefing by the Chinese defense ministry Wednesday, Chang told National Security Advisor Susan Rice that Pyongyang is willing to hold three- or four-party talks to discuss its nuclear program.
Saying this is the way to peacefully resolve the North Korean nuclear issue, the Chinese defense chief urged Washington to seize the opportunity.
However, Washington reportedly said Pyongyang lacks sincerity towards denuclearization and that it must first take meaningful steps before the two sides can open dialogue.
