Seoul, Washington begin joint military drills
While the two Koreas make efforts to revive dialogue, South Korea and the United States kicked off their annual Ulchi Freedom Guardian exercises on this Monday.
The 12-day-long, computer-aided joint military drills will mobilize around 50-thousand South Korean forces and roughly 30-thousand American servicemen.
The Combined Forces Command says the drills are intended to check the forces' ability to ensure security on the Korean peninsula and maintain the joint defense capabilities between the two allies.
While there are concerns the upcoming drills may kill newly-found momentum in dialogue between the two Koreas, experts say Pyongyang will most likely keep it a separate issue from the recent progress made in inter-Korean relations.
