A highly-anticipated meeting between two Korean "comfort women" and a Japanese politician who has been leveling a series of insulting comments against Japan's wartime sex slaves has been canceled.
In a press release, the women called off their meeting with Osaka Mayor Toru Hashimoto just hours before their scheduled encounter on this Friday morning.
The women were planning to meet Hashimoto at Osaka City Hall to demand an apology for his offensive remarks.
The women explained they called off the meeting out of their disgust at Hashimoto and because they don't want to be used as pawns to further his political career.
The Japanese politician recently said the so-called "comfort women" served a necessary role in keeping soldiers in line.
