U.S., China say denuclearization necessary for N. Korea's diplomacy
Washington's top nuclear envoy Glyn Davies says the U.S. and China agree that the denuclearization of the Korean peninsula is absolutely necessary if North Korea wants to see progress in diplomacy.
After talks with his Chinese counterpart Wu Dawei in Beijing on Wednesday, Davies said the two sides also agreed tensions on the peninsula have died down a touch since Pyongyang removed its Musudan mid-range missiles from a launch site on the country's east coast.
The U.S. official also called on Beijing to play a more proactive role in getting Pyongyang to denuclearize and said the international community should speak with a strong and unified voice to pressure North Korea.
