Heavy Snow Hits Korea's Central Region, up to 15cm Expected

Heavy snow hit Korea's central region overnight, with up to 15-centimeters expected to pile up this morning in some areas.

Heavy snow warnings have been issued for Gyeonggi Province, and heavy snow advisories are in place for Seoul and Chungcheong Province.

Icy roads are expected to make morning commutes difficult with some roads blocked in the hardest hit areas.

Authorities are encouraging people to head out to work earlier than usual and take public transportation if possible.

Subway services in Seoul started an hour earlier and will finish an hour later than usual this evening.

Schools in Seoul have been ordered to open an hour later.

Electricity was cut off in several apartment buildings around the capital last night, including the Seocho and the Geumcheon districts due to the snow.

The nation's weather agency says snow will stop in most areas by noon.
