Korean President's Brother Gets 2 Years in Jail
President Lee Myung-bak's elder brother has been sentenced to two years in prison on corruption charges -- making it the first time in the nation's history that the brother of a sitting president has been convicted in a criminal court.
Former lawmaker Lee Sang-deuk was found guilty of taking 750-million won, or roughly 700-thousand U.S. dollars in bribes from the chairmen of two savings banks and a local company.
The Seoul Central District Court also ordered Lee to pay a 700-thousand dollar fine.In the same court hearing, Chung Doo-un , the ruling Saenuri Party representative was sentenced to one-year in jail for colluding with the president's brother.Both the elder Lee and Chung say they will appeal.
