Xi Jinping Tells Visiting Envoy that China Opposes N. Korea's Nuclear Weapon Development
China's top leader Xi Jinping expressed his opposition to North Korea's weapons development program.
During a meeting with a South Korean delegation dispatched by President-elect Park Geun-hye this afternoon Xi underlined the importance of denuclearization and prevention of proliferation of weapons of mass destruction in ensuring peace and stability on the Korean Peninsula.
The statement came after Pyongyang threatened to step up its military push including its nuclear weapons following the UN Security Council's adoption of a new resolution.
Meanwhile, the special envoy team which arrived in Beijing for a four-day visit on Monday delivered a personal letter from Park to Xi in which she expressed her hope for further strengthening relations between the two countries and invited Xi to visit South Korea in the near future.
