Park's Transition Team Declines to Give Definite Answer on Suspected Hacking Attacks by North Korea

Despite reports of North Korea's suspected hacking attack on its computer server on Thursday, the presidential transition team refrained from giving a clear anwer. Rather, the committee's chief spokesman Yoon Chang-jung said there was a misunderstanding in delivering a message from the country's security authorities to reporters. Yoon said the committee was asked to recommend that reporters use antivirus programs and frequently change their computer passwords since the press room is more vulnerable to external hacking attempts. He explained that this is because internet connections in the press room are hooked up to a commercial network, while the committee offices are connected to a more secure government network.

Earlier in the day, a committee official said that intelligence authorities found signs of possible hacking attempts by North Korea while conducting a security check-up on the computer server for the press room. But despite being showered with questions from reporters in the afternoon, the spokesman declined to confirm if there was any hacking attempt in the first place.Meanwhile, the transition team wrapped up its week-long collection of status reports from nearly 50 government offices, as says it will now get down to the business of setting an administrative vision and laying out the incoming government's agenda items.
