Korean Bus Union Withdraws Strike Plan, Calls for Customized Taxi Bill
It seems like we won't be experiencing traffic disruptions on this Friday. as the country's bus drivers have decided not to go on strike. even if a bill recognizing taxis as public transportation is put to a vote at the National Assembly.
In withdrawing their strike plan Thursday evening, a representative of the bus drivers' union promised to keep buses running to avoid massive public transportation chaos.
But that does not mean the drivers think their demands have been met.
The union also urged lawmakers to come up with a new law for taxis one that does not recognize taxis as public transportation.
Bus drivers worry that if the bill is enacted, it will allow cab companies to receive state subsidies that are currently shared by bus and subway corporations.
