Seoul Dismisses Concerns that U.S. Publication Contains Controversial Territorial Claims by China
A Korean foreign ministry official dismissed concerns by the local media over a report to be released by the U.S. Congress that repeats China's claims to an ancient Korean kingdom.
In the report by the Congressional Research Service, China claims the ancient kingdom of Goguryeo, established in 37 B.C., was part of the greater China.
The Korean foreign ministry official said the report just lays out claims made in a Chinese book and the issue is not problematic at all.
The kingdom of Goguryeo, which is now located in the northern part of North Korea and the northeastern part of China, has occasionally been the source of historical disputes between Korea and China.
