Park Geun-hye to Assume Head Position of Ruling Saenuri Party's Integration Committee Herself; Two Liberal Presidential Candid
It appears that the ruling Saenuri Party's internal feud has finally been put to rest.
Presidential candidate Park Geun-hye decided on Wednesday to assume the head position of the party's integration committee.
The conflict began because of the appointment of key positions within the party,.. with party members Ahn Dae-hee and Kim Jong-in walking out in protest.
But they have since returned to work after accepting Park's decision to take the reins.
On Wednesday afternoon, Park met current Gyeonggi Governor Kim Moon-soo, who ran against her for the party's presidential nomination.
It was their first encounter since the party election late August, and watchers say the meeting was part of Park's efforts to bring her party together.
On the other side of the aisle, the main opposition Democratic United Party's presidential candidate Moon Jae-in said Wednesday that only his party could claim an election win over the ruling Saenuri Party in December.
Speaking at a party convention held in North Jeolla Province, Moon also claimed that without the stable support of party organizations, an independent candidate, namely Ahn Cheol-soo, would face difficult political challenges, even if selected as president.
Ahn responded to the comments in Daejeon on Wednesday.
He said that an independent president would be able to properly steer state affairs, by respecting the National Assembly, and by mediating opposing sides.
However, Ahn, did not respond to questions regarding a possible unification of his candidacy with the main opposition camp.
