Sex Offenders Personal Info to be Updated Every 6 Months

The government will update and verify residence details and other personal information about convicted sex offenders every six months.
This reflects a new attempt to monitor them more effectively after a recent spate of highly-publicized sex crimes.
The current law says that those convicted of sex crimes are only required to update their residence and employment information with the police on a voluntary basis once a year.
The law does not require police to verify the information.
But the Ministry of Justice will now make it mandatory for the disclosure of personal information and police verification of it.
Information subject to disclosure includes home address, job and vehicle ownership.
The ministry said it will introduce the changes by the end of this month.
