London 2012: Lee Brings First Silver in Men's Taekwondo
We start tonight's Olympic segment with Korean Olympians who gave it their all until the very last moment.
Team Korea earned two very precious silver medals overnight none of which came easy.
Korea's first Taekwondo fighter, Lee Dae-hoon in men's 58-kilos left with a silver and many more injuries.
For the medal stories and more, we are now joined by Arirang's Olympics correspondent, Song Ji-sun in the studio. Welcome, Ji-sun.
[Reporter : ] Good evening, guys.
Ji-sun, I'm sure you watched Lee Dae-hoon's long journey up to the finals.
How would you describe it[Reporter : ] Well, it was not an easy match to start off.
Lee seemed sluggish and lethargic in many of his matches and he climbed his way up beating opponents by just one point -- from the preliminaries to the semis.
Now that I think is the reason he lost as he lost much of his energy during two overtime matches.
Lee lost to Spain's Joel Gonzales Bonilla 17-to-8. in the final after allowing Gonzales Bonilla to score both on hits to the head and the body.
The World Champ and Asian Games Champ was initially seeking to seal his career slam with an Olympic gold but that shot must now be put on hold until Rio 2016.
Lee was originally 63-kilos but he lost eight kilos to compete in the Olympics as there is no 63-kilo class in the Summer Games.
And later he told the press that he flew to London with his nose ALREADY broken from the national tryout and got hit in the final leading to his nosebleed
I know. It was just heartbreaking to see him bleeding and tumbling after taking hits to the face and the head.
Thank you, Lee Dae-hoon for fighting your best and I'm sure Korea's taekwondo athletes will go on to garner medals, if not all golds, in the upcoming matches.
