Egypt's President Calls Back Dissolved Parliament
Egypt's top generals held an "emergency meeting" Sunday to discuss the sudden decision by the president to reconvene the dissolved parliament until a new election is held.
The country's official news agency reports that newly elected President Mohamed Morsy called lawmakers back into session earlier Sunday in defiance of the army. Last month, the then-ruling generals ordered the legislature to be dissolved after Egypt's highest court ruled that the parliament's members were illegally elected.
Morsy's order now puts him at odds with Egypt's powerful generals.
The Egyptian military took power from ousted dictator Hosni Mubarak last year.
