Registration begins this Monday for candidates wishing to run in the December 19th presidential election.
With possible candidates from both the ruling and opposition parties weighing their odds before the race, Gyeonggi Governor Kim Moon-soo of the ruling Saenuri Party declared his candidacy for the race on Sunday, making him the first to throw his hat into the ring for the ruling Saenuri party's presidential nomination race.
Former ruling party leader Chung Mong-joon and lawmaker Lee Jae-oh are soon expected to announce their bids as well.
Meanwhile, the Saenuri Party's interim leader Park Geun-hye embarks on a 2-week national tour on Monday, starting in Gangwon Province, to thank the people for voting for the ruling party in this year's general elections, and to strengthen her position as a possible presidential candidate.
